Rural Medical Program

Medical students can undertake rural placements and research via a variety of programs. We are always looking to extend these placements to new sites and to introduce new rural programs where we can.

The Australian Government's Department of Health and Ageing through the Rural Clinical Training and Support (RCTS) program fund the training of medical students in rural areas.

Year 4 Surgical Home Unit The Surgical Home Unit is a 9 week placement concentrating on the discipline of surgery.

Year 5 Integrated Program The Integrated Medical Program is a longitudinal medical placement which sees 25% of the Year 5 medical cohort based in our rural centres for an entire year.

Year 6 Selectives The Year 6 program offers 4 week elective placements in community and ambulatory locations in our learning centres or we can assist students in finding placements in other rural towns in our region.
