At Adelaide Medical School you can choose from high-quality undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, and postgraduate research degrees.

If you wish to pursue a career in medicine, we offer the Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine This program focuses on experiential learning as well as academic rigour and facilitates the effective integration of theory and practice.

If you are interested in human health but aren’t yet sure where that might take you, consider our Bachelor of Health and Medical Sciences. This flexible degree can be tailored to your interests and career aspirations.

We also offer the Bachelor of Health and Medical Sciences (Advanced) option for aspiring future leaders in health. Health and medical sciences encompasses a broad range of disciplines, but what unites health scientists in the field is an evidence-based approach: they are experts in identifying, appraising, evaluating and applying the best techniques for improving health and wellbeing.

We also offer a number of degrees in addiction studies and mental health, some of which are delivered entirely online. Addiction studies is a fascinating, multidisciplinary field that includes pharmacological, psychosocial, public health and policy approaches.

If you are already a qualified surgeon and are looking to consolidate and improve your expertise, we offer the Master of Minimally Invasive Surgery. Or, if you would like to pursue a career in research, we also offer PhD and master’s degrees.

Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences (AHMS) building

Adelaide Medical School is located within the $246 million Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences (AHMS) building. Conveniently situated in the heart of Adelaide's BioMed City precinct adjacent the Royal Adelaide Hospital and South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), the AHMS brings together more than 1700 students and 600 health researchers in a vibrant and innovative environment of learning and discovery.

Adelaide Health Simulation

Adelaide Health Simulation provides practical training for health professionals and students, using advanced technology to simulate medical and surgical emergencies, and teach critical decision-making. Our approach provides a safe, comfortable and well-supported learning environment, with mentoring from highly respected educators.

Specialist services

Adelaide Medical School provides a full range of specialist facilities that offer you an optimal learning environment, and enable staff to develop engaging blended and online learning resources.

These include the Medical Sciences Teaching Resource Centre, which provides: experimental equipment for labs; multimedia support, such as self-paced learning guides, videos and other valuable tutorial resources; and an e-Learning Resource Room for school staff.

Scholarship opportunities

The University offers a number of scholarships to potential and currently enrolled undergraduate and postgraduate students, and there are also many others funded by industry and non-profit organisations.

Just one example is our research travel scholarships, which enable talented students—and that could be you—to study abroad at some of the most prestigious institutions in the world. It’s an experience that could open the way for you to engage in cross or in-discipline collaboration with top researchers the world over.

Study overseas

As an Adelaide Medical School student you’ll have the opportunity to study overseas through study tours in Asia and Europe. For example, you can undertake a four-week work-based training/Dean’s elective overseas in a local or overseas hospital or clinic of your choice prior to completing your degree. Past students have worked and studied in countries such as the UK, Nepal, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Canada. University isn’t all work and no play. Joining a student club is a great way to pursue other interests and meet new people. From sports and hobbies to politics and culture, the University of Adelaide has a wide range of student clubs for you to consider. As a student in the Adelaide Medical School, you may find the Adelaide Medical Students’ Society and Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences Association of particular interest.
