Minister for Health and Wellbeing visits with the CRE Frailty
The Hon Stephen Wade MLC - Minister for Health and Wellbeing visited the CRE Frailty & Health Ageing.
The Minister met with lead investigators of the centre Prof Renuka Visvanathan, Prof Justin Beilby and Emeritus Professor Derek Frewin OA as well as Mr Matthew McInnes, the Executive Director Allied Health and Intermediate Care.
The Minister heard research presentations from across the CRE including an introduction to the CRE Frailty and Healthy Ageing by Professor Visvanathan followed by the official launch of the new Web Mapping Application: Frail and Pre-Frail Estimates for Australia developed by Dr Danielle Taylor. Dr Mandy Archibald presented a sneak preview of the Untangling Frailty video discussing consumer perspectives on ageing which is due to be released soon. A/Prof Maria Inacio from SAHMRI also presented work from the Registry of Older South Australians which is a multi-institutional collaboration that the CRE Frailty & Healthy Ageing are a part of. Professor Beilby discussed Frailty Screening in General practice.
The Minister was also treated to a demonstration of the Ambient Intelligent Geriatric Management system (AmbIGeM) by Nurse Unit Manager Stephen Hoskins at TQEH geriatric evaluation and management unit. This trial is testing a novel technology to detect unassisted movement in older patients who nurses assess as needing supervision when moving. The trial is coordinated by Dr Joanne Dollard with chief investigators Prof Visvanathan and A/Prof Damith Ranasinghe (University of Adelaide).
