Vice Chancellor Professor Warren Bebbington visits the Centre
The University of Adelaide’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Warren Bebbington visited ARCPOH on the 7th of February 2013 to deliver a presentation and facilitate discussion on the Universities ‘Beacon of Enlightenment’ Strategic Plan for 2013—2023.
Professor Bebbington reflected on the founding vision of the University—to produce young educated leaders in a democratic and progressive environment. He then directed his focus to the major goals and intentions of the University moving through the next decade and the strategies that will be employed to achieve these aims.
The ‘Beacon of Enlightenment’ strategies include:
- Learning strategies: New discoveries in undergraduate courses, small group learning sessions, ensure graduates attain the required skills for employment in their sector, greatly increase e-learning and increase the flexibility of the learning environment.
- Research Strategies: Respond to societal priorities in an interdisciplinary manner, develop research partnerships, recruit ten ‘star’ research professors with high citation rates, double PhD research scholarships, ensure star researchers present to students and address global university rankings.
- International Strategies: Launching five international research networks, increase study abroad and work-based experience programs and introduce an international student host program.
To deliver the plan there will be: an increase in scholarships for the disadvantaged, major philanthropic appeals, a rebranding of the university, innovation in budget management and the engagement of government, business and the commu-nity to create a network of stakeholders in research programs.
This strategic plan will ‘recapture the vision’ of the University of Adelaide’s founders and deliver world class education and research in an engaged and progressive environment.
