National Palliative Care Week and project updates

National Palliative Care Week runs from the 21st – 27th May 2023, and is Australia’s largest annual initiative to raise awareness about palliative care and its benefits.

This year’s theme of “Matters of Life and Death” aims to raise conversations about death and dying, and how to provide care and support to people and families living with life-limiting illness.

Recently, the Palliative Care Research Collaboration team partnered with Palliative Care South Australia and Multicultural Communities Council of South Australia to deliver a train-the-trainer community workshop with community leaders representing the Filipino, German, Italian, and Vietnamese communities in Adelaide.  The workshop is a key part of one of our research studies, looking at levels of understanding about and access to end-of-life care in culturally and linguistically diverse communities, aiming to increase awareness through a collaborative approach with communities.  Following the workshop, these community leaders will lead activities within their respective communities to share information, develop resources, and continue conversations about serious illness, death, and grief.
