Community Events

DRMCRL staff and students regularly organise and/or engage in community events to raise awareness of breast and prostate cancer research being undertaken at the University of Adelaide.

Community funds underpin vital cancer research and are also used for support services, prevention programs, and advocacy.

Fund raising events are held by community groups such as CanDance Australia through their CanDance for a Cure (CFAC) event, which has supported cancer research at the University of Adelaide.

In 2022, 2023 & 2024, the CanDance for a Cure shows were attended by DRMCRL researchers.
In 2024, Dawn and Marie were fortunate to attend this spectacular performance held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Thanks to CFAC and the efforts of CanDance Artistic Director Rachel Adcroft and her team, the DRMCRL was able to purchase a new Multisizer 4E Coulter Counter and computer from the donations received from the 2022 & 2023 performances.

This new state of the art equipment, located in the CanDance Australia Tissue Culture lab, will allow our staff and students to automate their cell counting protocols, enabling faster and more accurate research into new potential drugs and cancer treatments.

Assoc Prof Theresa Hickey thank you to CFAC.

Annual events such as  National Breast Cancer Foundation’s (NBCF) Mother’s Day Classic, Daffodil Day and Cancer Council Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea are also important fund-raising activities for supporting ongoing research for breast and prostate cancer.

Hear Dr Jean Winter, recipient of a Cancer Council Early Career Fellowship, speak about how funding from Cancer Council SA has supported her work on investigating new therapies for estrogen receptor positive breast cancer.
