2018 Women's Excellence in Research Award
Associate Professor Charlene Thornton (midwifery, midwife and epidemiologist, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Flinders University) was presented with the third Healthy Development Adelaide Women’s Excellence in Research Award on Improving the health and wellbeing of mothers and babies now and into the future.
Charlene’s research focuses on the use of linked population datasets combined with mixed methodology, to establish benchmarks and hence improve the health and wellbeing of mothers and babies. Ultimately, Charlene hopes that collaboration on the use of data at national levels will lead to clinical change at the ‘coal-face’ of maternity services in Australia and world-wide. Only through a strong multi-disciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, policy makers and consumers can lasting positive change be achieved.
The HDA Women's Excellence in Research Award is awarded to HDA mid-career women members for excellence of research achievement by women working in the field of developmental health.
