HDA Oration: The Mental Health of Young Australians. Whose Responsibility?

Please join us for our 16th annual HDA Oration presented by Emeritus Professor Michael Sawyer, former HDA Convenor (2006-18), University of Adelaide.

This oration will describe what we know about the prevalence and nature of mental health problems experienced by young Australians during the last 20 years. It will also describe the development and evaluation of several population-level interventions that have attempted to reduce the prevalence of mental health problems experienced by children and adolescents in Australia. Experience gained in the course of this work will be used to highlight the challenges experienced by research and evaluation programs in Australia that aim to improve the mental health of young people in our country. Finally, the oration will consider who has responsibility for helping the many children and adolescents in Australia who are currently experiencing mental health problems.
