Continuing Professional Development

At Adelaide Dental School we offer a range of quality continuing professional development short-courses to help you regularly enhance your knowledge and skills in dentistry and oral health.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is, of course, compulsory for all dental and oral health practitioners registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA). Practitioners are required to complete 60 hours of CPD every three years, and 80% of those hours must be devoted to scientific/clinical training. The remainder may be non-scientific. You can learn more about specific CPD requirements in the Dental Board of Australia's CPD practice guidelines.

At the Adelaide Dental School, however, we see CPD not just as a regulatory requirement, but an incredibly valuable tool with which to constantly grow and improve as professionals; something that benefits our entire community.

Training and learning for all practitioners

Our school provides high-quality CPD suitable for all members of the dental team, from dentists and dental surgeons right through to laboratory assistants and practice managers. We already offer a variety of face-to-face and online courses (see below), but if there’s a topic or course you would like to see presented, please email us at: We’ll endeavour to respond within one working day.

Online professional development

The school’s online CPD in the area of preventive dentistry is currently provided by the Dental Practice Education Research Unit within the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health. The program is known as the Colgate Online Continuing Professional Development Program.
