Biography
Head of Colorectal Surgery at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, South Australia and Clinical Senior Lecturer, Discipline of Surgery, The University of Adelaide.

Interest in laparoscopic surgery since 1990 and involved in developing the technique of laparoscopic harvesting of kidneys from living related donors at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital for which the team received a SA Great Award for Health in 1998. Recipient of the Northern California Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons Award in 1996 for involvment in the project titled ‘Intraperitoneal Cell Movement during Abdominal CO2 Insufflation and Laparoscopy – an In-vivo Model.

Chairman of the Research Committee of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (2000-2006) and elected to the chair of the the assessment committee of the Research Foundation of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand from 2005-2007. Currently an active member of the committee. Also currently Chairman of the Calvary Hospital Clinial Review Committee (2000-) and a member of the Ashford Hospital Clinical Review Committee(2000-).

Associate Editor of the publication Diseases of the Colon and Rectum (2002-2008) and the Chinese Journal of Coloproctology(2004-). Referee of the publications for Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, British Journal of Surgery and Surgical Endoscopy. Twenty papers published in high impact, peer reviewed journals since 2004.

Instrumental in the development of a University of Adelaide Masters Degree Course in Minimally Invasive Surgery based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which is of significant importance.

Director of Surgery Australia, which runs established courses in laparoscopic surgery for Australian surgeons, and are held eight times per year at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
