Biography
Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Adelaide and Head of Vascular Surgery at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Chair of the Board of Vascular Surgery from 2003 to 2006 during which time the vascular curriculum was developed. Co-editor with Matt Thompson of “Mechanisms of Vascular Disease: A textbook for vascular surgeons”.
Research interests include factors influencing the development of sepsis following major reperfusion injury, vascular surgery and evaluation of new technology.
Actively involved in the Multidisciplinary Foot Clinic at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Lyell McEwin Health Services and provides outreach clinics in regional South Australia.
Clinical interests
• Most invasive forms of vascular surgery
• Effectiveness of endoluminal stent grafting for abdominal aortic aneurysms
• Outcomes in the diabetic foot and factors affecting wound healing in leg ulcers
Research interests
• The study of the role of matrix metalloproteinases in reperfusion injury following skeletal muscle ischaemia.
• The effect of inhibitors of MMPs on local and remote reperfusion injury is being studied.
• White cell activation in systemic inflammatory response syndrome following major vascular surgery is currently under investigation.
