Biography
• PhD, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, The University of Adelaide
• Research Scientist in the Department of Surgery
• Senior Lecturer, School of Nursing and Midwifery Flinders University

The current research investigates how genes are regulated in cancer, particularly by DNA methylation or microRNAs. Changes that can be detected easily in patient specimens, and which would be useful diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers; that is, might indicate that a patient with early change in their tissues is at high risk of developing cancer, or that cancer is present, or that metastasis of a cancer is likely; or that might guide the tailoring of specific therapies or predict survival, are investigated. This research is applied to understanding gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and oesophageal cancer.

Research interests
• DNA methylation
• MicroRNAs
• Oesophageal cancer
• Barrett’s oesophagus
• Gastrointestinal diseases
