Why Study Health Sciences?

Through the Bachelor of Health Sciences program at the University of Adelaide
you can follow your passion for a specific career in health, or discover a whole
new world of opportunity in the rapidly expanding and growing health industry
sector. Whilst other Faculty of Health Sciences vocational programs, such as
Medicine and Dentistry, are well known with students seeking a career in the
health sector, not everyone may be aware of the additional opportunities and
flexibility of career pathways in health available through the Bachelor of Health
Sciences program (SATAC code 314411).
The Health Sciences program has a vocational focus and offers:
- Exposure to a wide range of health-related disciplines including Medical
Sciences (Anatomical Sciences, Pathology, Pharmacology), Public Health and
Psychology.
- Flexibility to match core courses in health with other areas of interest
in science, humanities and social science, mathematical and computer science,
and commerce.
- Individual and population approaches to wellness and the prevention and
treatment of human disease. It is also the only science-based program in South
Australia that offers courses in human anatomy and pathology.
- Links with major health industry providers in South Australia including
hospitals, research centres and institutes, government, professional bodies
and private industry.
- Opportunities to acquire knowledge,
skills and attitudes relevant to the health industry in a caring and supportive
environment.
- An excellent pathway into postgraduate programs in medicine, physiotherapy,
chiropractic and other health professions.
Careers
Specific career outcomes will depend on the choice of study
pathway undertaken, however, in previous years Bachelor of Health Sciences
graduates have found work in Australia and overseas in:

- University, hospital and pathology laboratories
- Hospital and non-hospital health promotion units
- Forensic sciences
- Pharmaceutical companies
- Commercial clinical trial laboratories
