Welcome to the School of Medical Sciences
The School of Medical Sciences offers a dynamic research-intensive environment that fosters excellence in interdisciplinary research and teaching, and nurtures the development of our students to reach their full potential. The School encompasses the disciplines of Anatomy & Pathology, Pharmacology and Physiology and focuses on:
- Investigating the morphology of the human body at the macroscopic and microscopic levels to illustrate how structure relates to function.
- Investigating functions of the body with a particular emphasis on the human body.
- Understanding the causes and mechanisms of disease and its consequences.
- Establishing how drugs may be used to improve health and quality of life, as medicines to treat and prevent diseases or, as a research tool to further explore the function of the human body.
- Understanding the acute chronic physiological responses to exercise and physical activity.
Together, these disciplines provide the foundation for careers in medicine, dentistry and the allied health sciences.
