Early Career Researchers
View our flier
The Early Career Researchers of the Basil Hetzel Research Institute at the
QEH was formed in 2009.
As part of the Research Review in 2008, it was identified that there was not
much support for early-mid career scientists at The Institute. Much of this
comes
down to the fact that we rarely had an opportunity to interact outside our
departments - many of us didn't even know each other! Keen to change this,
we established an early
career researchers group (ECR), open to students, postdocs, RAs, TAs.
anyone really!
The aim of the group is to meet regularly, informally exchange ideas,
present important papers, provide support and swap expertise as well as
inviting some interesting
external speakers along. We have support from the QEH Research Foundation,
who provide funding for snacks and drinks. We meet on the first Monday
afternoon of each month, with each early-mid researcher organising one
session. As well as enabling inter-lab discussion over a beer or two, we
invite visitors throughout the year to give information on granting
opportunities and career advice.
