Welcome to The School
The School of Medicine is one of the largest in the University and includes highly successful researchers, a core of academic teachers and a large pool of enthusiastic and motivated clinical titleholders. It has a very large responsibility for teaching within the clinical years of the Undergraduate Medical Program at the University of Adelaide, Faculty of Health Sciences and is home for the Medical Learning and Teaching Unit. The School currently incorporates the Disciplines of Acute Care Medicine, Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Psychiatry and Surgery.
The ongoing vibrant research agenda within the School feeds directly into a high quality teaching programme as the research success reinforces the strong clinical credentials of the School’s staff. The School has a very strong track record in attracting external competitive research grant support with a high level of success in securing NHMRC funding. The research carried out in the School covers the translational medicine spectrum and is focussed on our understanding and treatment of important common diseases. There is a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary research.
The School relies very heavily on clinical titleholders who perform a vast amount of the undergraduate teaching. The motivation and support of these clinical titleholders in our teaching program is highly appreciated.
The School has significant teaching activities at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Modbury Hospital and Lyell McEwin Hospital. Our research is currently carried out at the Royal Adelaide Hospital campus, the Frome Road Medical School buildings and the Basil Hetzel Institute situated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
