Faculty of Health Science Research

The University of Adelaide Australia

Special Studies Program (SSP)

In the Faculty of Health Sciences the Special Studies Program (SSP) provides the opportunity for academic staff to meet and interact with colleagues overseas. This program also allows staff to update their skills and foster international linkages to the significant benefit of the University.

SSP Leave in  2010

You are encouraged to refer to the online SSP information on the Human Resources (HR) website. The University Special Studies Program Policy & Guidelines and the Faculty-specific SSP Criteria (modified Feb 2009) will assist you in confirming your eligibility for SSP in 2010.  Your entitlement for SSP can be found on your UoA payslip.

Eligible staff in the Health Sciences wishing to apply for financially supported SSP anytime in 2010 applied by 31 March 2009. A second round in 2009 (notionally for those wishing to apply for SSP in 2010 without additional travel and living away from home expenses) will close in the FHS Research Secretariat on 30 September 2009 (an original and six copies please).

An SSP Report needs to be submitted within one month of return from SSP to the satisfaction of your Head/Dean of School (one copy to be forwarded to Human Resources with your completion form and a copy to the FHS Research Secretariat for review by the FHS SSP Committee).

A model SSP Report  has been kindly supplied by Associate Professor Jane Mathias, who currently represents the School of Psychology on the Faculty SSP Committee.

Faculty International Conference Award (FICA) Scheme

A new, more competitive Faculty International Conference Award (FICA) scheme will replace the Faculty Overseas Conference Scheme with effect from Monday 27 July 2009.

Increased funding will be directed to eligible researchers, specifically to encourage ECRs in the Faculty to present their research findings at international conferences, hence raising their profiles and that of the Faculty on the international stage.  Staff not meeting the ECR definition in the FICA guidelines may notionally be awarded a FICA every two years.

FICA applications may be submitted at any time from 27 July 2009 with no guarantee of funding.  However, the Grants and Personnel Committee will only review the applications twice a year.  Applications submitted in the FHS Research Secretariat by 31 March and 30 September in any given year will be reviewed by the Committee during April and October, respectively.
