Health Economic Evaluation and Decision Making

Health econimc evaluation is increasingly used to inform decision making at all health service levels - hospital and community - based practice, and national and State/Territory health departments and associated bodies (e.g. PBAC, MSAC, etc.). This course covers the rationale for health economic evaluation within a publicly funded health care system and approaches to incorporating cost-effectiveness data within such systems, and provides detailed introductions to the building blocks of economic evaluation, including outcome measurement (e.g. quality adjusted life years) and frameworks (e.g. decision analytic modelling)

HealthTechnology Assessment

Health Technology Assessment will be held on 19th November - 23rd November 2012.
This course will take a broad view of the assessment of health technologies such as medical procedures, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and public health interventions to inform policy decision regarding access to (and public funding of) these technologies. Emphasis will be placed on methods for conducting the assessment of safety, effectiveness and cost effectiveness of these technologies and on the implementation of the findings of health technology assessment into clinical and public health practice. Attention will be also be given to the diffusion of technological innovations within their social, cultural and ethical context to horizon scanning; diagnostics and disinvestment of technologies.
