Areas of interest:

  • Health Technology Assessment (HTA): Director of HTA unit in DPH
  • Perinatal epidemiology - trials + observational studies including the use of surveillance data
  • Cancer epidemiology - breast, colorectal - screening, guidelines, policy
  • Health care evaluation
  • Reproductive epidemiology including environmental risk factors
  • Developments in epidemiological theory

Current projects:

  • Randomised controlled trials: Magnesium sulphate for the prevention of mortality and cerebral palsy in preterm infants
  • Repeat dose of steroids for prevention of lung disease in preterm infants
  • Screening and management of glucose intolerance of pregnancy (ACHOIS)

Observational studies:

  • North Western Area Men's Health study: cohort study of men and ageing
  • Vaginal birth after caesarean section
  • Screening for Group B Streptococcus infection in pregnancy
  • Infection and cerebral palsy risk
  • Long-term follow-up of participants in the ACHOIS trial
  • Follow-up of Australian servicemen exposed to British nuclear testing
