Physical Activity

Description | Brief Reports | Reports | Trend Graphs

Description

Physical activity participation is an important factor associated with chronic disease and obesity in South Australia.   Levels of sufficient physical activity are achieved by approximately half of the South Australian population over the age of 18 years.

Physical activity is recognised as an important factor in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, some musculoskeletal disorders and mental health conditions.  A more sedentary lifestyle and technological advances have lead to a decrease in levels of activity, however regular physical activity is encouraged to reduce health risks.
