Drug Dependence
HUMAN RESEARCH
This group is led by Professor Jason White,
Professor Felix Bochner and Professor
Andrew Somogyi.
The major focus of this research is concerned with maintenance treatment of
opioid dependence. The projects include clinical trials of maintenance
medications, as well as pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analysis of these
drugs. A major experimental approach has been intensive assessment over
an interdosing interval (24-48 hrs) that includes measurement of physiological
parameters, subjective and cognitive effects as well as plasma concentrations
of the maintenance medication.
Funding for this research has come from NHMRC, South Australian
and Victorian departments of health, Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing
and International Pharmaceutical companies.
