Years 1-3
Scientific Basis of Medicine
The Discipline contributes to the Scientific Basis of Medicine
theme through case-writing, tutoring in problem-based learning, and by providing
lectures in a large number of different areas of relevance to Pharmacology. These
include introductory sessions such as "What is a Drug?" and "How
do Drugs Work?" in year 1, and more advanced topics such as pharmacokinetics
and routes of drug delivery in year 2. During years 2 and 3, there are several
lectures on particular therapeutic drug groups as they relate to the particular
cases that the students are dealing with, and there are also several sessions
on the basic principles of alcohol and drug dependence.
