Barbara was awarded her BMedSci by the University of Adelaide in 1986, followed by an MBBS in 1989. After undertaking her residency at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, she completed her PhD on age related changes within the knee at the University of Adelaide in 1993. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1996 and then completed periods as a histopathology registrar at the Womens and Childrens Hospital and the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guilford, UK. In 1996, she joined the Pathology Department as a senior lecturer and served as Acting Head of Department from 1998-2001. During this time, she was the recipient of several undergraduate teaching awards. Her current research interests are in the role of iron transporters following traumatic spinal cord injury and in the pathology of penetrating brain injury. In addition to her research program, Barbara is a consultant diagnostic neuropathologist with the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science. |
