Professor NL Fazzalari is recognised as a leader in the study of bone architecture and bone quality. His work is distinguished by its multidisciplinary approach; include morphometric, molecular, biomechanical and mathematical analyses. As a leader in the field of bone and joint research his research program is funded primarily through the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Australian Research Council. He has received invitations from the National Institutes of Health to review issues of Ageing and Bone Quality. Furthermore, he has acted as a consultant for National Institutes of Health projects at Harvard University and University of California. His contribution to this field of study, having published over 90 peer-reviewed papers, is internationally recognised. As a mentor and teacher, he has successfully supervised 10 PhD, 3 MSc and 16 Honours students. He is a convener of the internationally acclaimed biennial Clare Valley Bone
Meeting, first held in 2000 with the support of the National Academy of Science.
He has been a member of the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society
programme committee, a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the International
Society of Bone Morphometry and the Asian Pacific Congress of Bone Morphometry.
Currently he is a member of the Board of the International Society for Fracture
Repair and the Australian and New Zealand Orthopaedic Research Society. In addition,
he is visiting Professor at University College London and on the Editorial Board
of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Experimental Biology and Medicine
and Virtual Bone online web site. |
