Prof. Nordin was awarded his MD from the University of London in 1952. Following his graduation, he worked as a House Physician at West Middlesex Hospital, London and Hammersmith Hospital, London. In 1955 he was a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Medicine at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York before holding the position of Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Glasgow and subsequently that of Senior Lecturer. He took the position of Director of the Medical Research Council at the General Infirmary, Leeds in 1964 and went on to complete his DSc in 1970. He presently holds the position of Senior Research Fellow and Senior Specialist in Endocrinology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
