Dr Bourne was awarded his MBBS from the University of Adelaide in 1970. He worked as a Junior Resident Medical Officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital before being promoted to Senior Resident Medical Officer in 1971 and working as a Pathology Registrar. He joined the Adelaide Children's Hospital in 1977 as a consultant Pathologist and was subsequently promoted to Deputy Director of Histopathology and then to his present position of Director of Department of Histopathology. He is also currently appointed as Consultant Pathologist to the Department of Histopathology, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Honorary Consultant in Histopathology to the Queen Victoria Hospital and Acting Chief of Laboratory Services at the Adelaide Children's' Hospital. Dr Bourne has been actively involved in teaching since 1972 and is affiliated with the Department of Pathology as a Clinical Senior Lecturer. His special interests are in Skeletal Muscle Pathology, Peripheral Nerve Pathology, Immunohistochemistry and Aspiration Cytology.
