Structured Program for M Med Sc and PhD Students

    - Completion of the Core Component of the Structured Program and Research Proposal

The aim of the Structured Program is to broaden your skills as a researcher so that you will not only complete your postgraduate degree successfully and within the 2 years (for Masters) or 3 to 4 years for PhD, but also be prepared for the next stage of your career as an independent researcher.

Structured Program - Core Components - Discipline of Paediatrics

  1. As part of the Structured Program each candidate shall provide, within the six months of enrolment, a written component about the research being conducted.

  2. This component will normally be part of the Research Proposal .

  3. The Faculty of Health Sciences Research Proposal Proforma with a Gannt Chart is to be completed as part of the Core component of the Structured Program and is to be submitted within 6 months of commencement of the program. A sample Gantt Chart is provided here to assist HDR students and their supervisors in setting appropriate timelines and milestones during the candidature. Students must also submit the AGC document Completion of the Core Component of the Structured Program .

  4. Additional requirements of the Structured Program are:
    a) presentation of the Research Proposal at a seminar (and this would normally be within the department/unit where the candidate is conducting the research).
    b) attendance at directed components covering broader topics appropriate to PhD studies and any extra skills needed (the Structured Program Core Components), and other sessions which may be organised from time to time by the School of Paediatrics and Reproductive Health or the Graduate Centre.

  5. Candidates would also be expected to present to a broader audience on occasions to gain experience in seminar presentation.
