Research Interests

Philippa's main research interests involve evaluating ways to improve the health of mothers and babies, ranging from clinical trials, systematic reviews and other methods of research synthesis. She is also interested in the development and implementation of guidelines and in the translation of research into direct health benefits. She is active in initiatives to improve and develop research methodology, such as the CONSORT group and the Cochrane Handbook Advisory Group.

Current research includes a research synthesis of strategies to prevent infant mortality among Aboriginal women and teenage women; adaptation of guidelines for preventing venous thromboembolism; and assessing the value and impact of Australian maternal and perinatal trials on policy and practice.

Education Interests

Philippa is also active in evidence-based education for clinicians and researchers, largely through the Cochrane Collaboration, the WOMBAT Collaboration and SEA-ORCHID. She also supervises students and registrars attached to the Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Women's and Children's Hospital.
