This program is designed for students who wish to become registered nurses, prepared for practice in a wide variety of clinical areas. It is academically and clinically demanding. Throughout the program, students will be in clinical placements working alongside registered nurses for an eight-hour hospital shift. The academic year is extended over semester breaks to maximise clinical learning opportunities. Clinical placements will begin early in Level 1 and will extend throughout each level of the program at various metropolitan and rural venues. Clinical experts in nursing and health science supply academic content.
This program is specifically designed for Bachelor of Nursing graduates. It will provide graduates with preliminary research training and will encourage continued high quality research allowing them to continue their study as Higher Degree by Research students if they wish. The program is designed to enable students to:
- understand, describe and analyse varying approaches to research in nursing
- understand and critique research reports
- develop an awareness of current issues in nursing research
- conduct a research study
- report on the research in a dissertation.
Joint GNP Honours Program
Nurses who undertake their Graduate Nurse Program (GNP) year with the Royal Adelaide Hospital may also apply to undertake Honours with the University of Adelaide. Students who are accepted into the joint GNP/Honours will be employed by the Royal Adelaide Hospital part-time during semester in order to facilitate study in the Honours program. It should be noted that whilst this option is offered in collaboration with the Royal Adelaide Hospital, employment at the Hospital is in no way linked to the continuation of studies in the Honours program. Similarly, should a student withdraw from the Honours Program this will not affect their employment at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
