Celebrate Our Past. Experience Our Present. Support Our Future.![]() In 2010, the University of Adelaide Medical Program reaches a special milestone – 125 years of teaching, learning, ideas, research and achievements that continue to transform health care in Adelaide and the rest of the world. The Medical Program was first implemented in 1885 and has undergone many transitions over the last 125 years to become one of the most prestigious programs on offer at the University of Adelaide. From its early days as a two year Bachelor of Medicine degree to the six year Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery degree that is current, many changes have taken place, lives have been touched and students, nurtured by dedicated staff, have matured into the next generation of medical professionals. The 125th Anniversary will be a time of celebration where we look back on this history. Reflect on our incredible journey of success and celebrate the significant people who have contributed to the achievements of the program over many years – our alumni and staff. A series of special events and activities will be on offer during 2010, culminating with a week of festivities to mark our 125th milestone. All alumni, staff and current students are invited to help us celebrate this shared history of not just a program, but of the people and memories that have made studying Medicine at The University of Adelaide an unforgettable experience. The 125th Anniversary will also be an opportunity to look to our future. To maintain the excellence of research and the very high standard of graduate doctors, the University of Adelaide Medical School needs to continue to challenge its outstanding people and to invest in the infrastructure which will support international best practice teaching and learning. With this in mind, a significant regeneration of the existing medical school building has been planned – The Medical School Student Learning Hub. The facility, when completed, will feature two new teaching laboratories and three new research laboratories and will incorporate a state of the art student information common area as a central hub to the upgraded building. Even with the investment possible from the University of Adelaide funds, additional funding for the proposal is still needed to reach the high standards set. We are aiming to raise $5 million to complete this redevelopment and refurbishment of the Medical School. While this is an ambitious program, we know that alumni, friends and supporters of the school will take pride in assisting us to leave a legacy that will last for the next 125 years. 2010 will be an exciting year – our 125th year – and we would very much like all alumni to share this celebration with us as, with your support, dedication and involvement, it has been an amazing 125 years of Medicine at the University of Adelaide. Help us toast to a successful 125 year journey and a future of achievement and possibility! |
