Faculty of Health Sciences Quality Assurance Framework
Quality Assurance Principles
The Faculty Quality Assurance Framework is informed by the following principles:
Quality Assurance of the Student Experience
- All staff involved in teaching at the Faculty of Health Sciences should be familiar with the University of Adelaide Student Experience of Learning and Teaching (SELT) policy and undertake regular course, program and teacher SELTs as appropriate.
- All Programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences should have a Program Evaluation Plan (which includes regular reviews of SELTs and CEQ/GDS data, as well as tailored evaluation methods such as focus groups where appropriate).
- All new Faculty courses, major revisions to existing courses or deletions of courses are approved by the Faculty Course and Program Approval Committee.
- All courses in the Faculty of Health Sciences should provide students with a “Course Handbook”.
- All programs and courses in the Faculty of Health Sciences should have in place regular curriculum monitoring and review processes.
- All courses and programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences should have processes in place to ensure that regular and systematic evaluation data informs future program development.
- All courses and programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences should have in place mechanisms to ensure feedback of evaluation results to students and other key stakeholders.
Quality Assurance in Learning and Teaching
- University Planning and Development Reviews should include consideration of Learning and Teaching quality.
- In addition to the SELTs required by University Policy, all teaching staff should consider other methods of evaluating their teaching, such as peer review and teaching portfolios.
- All Schools and/or Disciplines in the Faculty of Health Sciences should facilitate staff development in the area of learning and teaching for all teaching staff.
- All Schools and/or Disciplines in the Faculty of Health Sciences should promote dissemination of excellent practice in learning and teaching through identification of staff for Faculty and University learning and teaching awards.
Assessment and Progression/ Students At Risk
- All Programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences should have mechanisms in place to monitor student progression and retention.
- All programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences should be aware of, and activate as required, Faculty mechanisms to identify and support “students at risk” of poor academic outcomes.
- All programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences should conduct regular review of assessment practices according to the University’s Assessment for Coursework Programs Policy.
Equity and Diversity Issues
- Each Program in the Faculty of Health Sciences should have a process in place to support First Year students in their transition to tertiary studies.
- Each Program in the Faculty of Health Sciences should have processes to support international students, particularly in regard to communication, cultural awareness and social issues.
- Each Program in the Faculty of Health Sciences should have processes to support indigenous students, particularly in regard to communication, cultural awareness and social issues.
- Each School in the Faculty of Health Sciences should ensure that all teaching staff are aware of the services provided by the University Disability Support Program.
