RegistrarsRegitrar PositionsTwo types of registrar positions are offered: 1. Training positions:
- These positions are accredited by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists for training in Intensive Care (FFICANZCA) or Anaesthesia (FANZCA)
2. Non-training positions: suitable for non-ANZCA trainees e.g. - Provisional Fellowship Year (PFY) for FANZCA
- Post fellowship (FANZCA) graduates who wish to gain more ICU experience
- Medical or surgical registrars as part of respective training (FRACP, FRACS)
- Emergency medicine (FACEM) trainees
- General hospital basic trainees (RMOs)
- Specialist registrars (UK) wishing to do 6 months - 1 year towards training (eg HPT)
- Overseas graduates who wish to gain ICU or retrieval experience (6 months - 1 year)
Queen Elizabeth Hospital ICU- Intensive Care Positions:
- The Faculty of Intensive Care, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists for training has accredited the Unit as a C24 Unit for the Fellowship in Intensive Care (FFICANZCA). Registered trainees with the Faculty may spend up to 24 months continuous (core and/or elective) training in the Unit.
- Positions are also approved for trainees undergoing Intensive Care training through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Specialist Advisory Committee in Intensive Care (FRACP, SAC(IC)). This includes physician trainees enrolled in the joint training scheme through the Joint Specialist Advisory Committee (JSAC) of the FICANZCA and RACP.
- Registrars not enrolled in either of the above two training schemes but wishing to gain further postgraduate experience in Intensive Care may apply for these positions. These include:
- Provisional Fellowship Year (PFY) for FANZCA (12 months)
- Post FANZCA fellowship graduates who wish to gain more ICU experience. (6-12 months)
- Specialist registrars (UK) (6-12 months)
- Overseas graduates who wish to gain ICU or retrieval experience (6-12 months)
- Trainees enrolled in either formal training program are given priority of appointment.
- Positions for non-Intensive Care Trainees
- a) Rotations of registrars in these positions are made from the respective specialty based training programs at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
- Anaesthetic trainees: Two positions (accredited by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists for training towards the Fellowship in Anaesthesia (FANZCA)) for 3-6 month terms.
- Physician trainees: one position for a 3 or 6-month term.
- Surgical trainees: one position for a 3-month term.
- Emergency Medicine trainees: one position for 3 or 6-month term.
- Salaries of registrars are determined by an State industrial award
- Senior registrars attract an additional loading provided they have specialist registration with Medical Board of South Australia.
