Postgraduate Education:
The Discipline of General Practice

Applications for postgraduate study in this discipline are invited from individuals who are interested in working in applied health settings in primary care or public health, and from individuals who are already working in the area but who wish to broaden their knowledge and expertise. Postgraduate students in this discipline come from a wide range of different backgrounds, including general practice/primary care, nursing, psychology, health sciences and the social sciences. The mission of the Discipline of General Practice is to ensure that graduate and postgraduate health professionals from the University of Adelaide are knowledgeable, competent, caring, efficient practitioners in the context of primary health care.

The Head of Discipline is Professor Nigel Stocks (08 8303 3462; nigel.stocks@adelaide.edu.au)  

The PHCRED (Primary Health Care Research Evaluation and Development) program is aimed at increasing capacity of GPs and other primary health care practitioners to undertake relevant and valid research. Part of this capacity building involves the encouragement and facilitation of postgraduate study. The director of PHCRED in the Discipline of General Practice is Professor Nigel Stocks (08 8303 3460).
