Florey Medical Research Foundation

Florey and his team of scientists changed the course of history when they developed penicillin into an antibiotic treatment.

The Florey Medical Research Foundation is named in honour of Lord Howard Florey, a University of Adelaide Medical School graduate, who shared in a Nobel Prize for his research and development of penicillin. His lifetime of achievement serves as a source of inspiration to students and researchers alike.

The Foundation is based within the Faculty of Health Sciences and is committed to raising funds for postgraduate research scholarships and early career postdoctoral research fellowships within the Medical Program.


The Florey Medical Research Foundation is committed to funding research projects of the highest calibre.

The Foundation's goal is to continue to raise funds to appoint early career postdoctoral research fellowships in the Medical Program.

  • Bequests

    Medical Research Fellowships funded through The Florey Medical Research Foundation have largely been made possible by gifts that everyday individuals have left to us in their Wills.

    Leaving a bequest to The Florey Medical Research Foundation helps ensure that vital research continues and medical breakthroughs occur which benefit society as a whole.

    Our Scientists are more than happy to meet with you to discuss their work and take you on tours of their respective laboratories - this will help you make an informed decision about your lasting legacy.

Community Fundraising

  • The Whyalla Area Cancer & Support Group

    A big thanks to the Whyalla team headed by President, Mrs Sandra Plew. The Whyalla Area Cancer and Support Group have been raising funds for the Florey Medical Research Foundation for many years and have organised many successful events to help support cancer research.
