Strategic Partnerships

We engage with our partners in business, industry and government to help them achieve their goals and objectives, and apply our research to make a real difference to the lives of others.

At the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences we work with a broad range of industry partners, from small start-ups to large multinational pharmaceutical and medical device companies, as well as state and federal government departments.

Within the faculty, we successfully identify and develop technologies to address unmet medical needs in the community, and translate these to market in collaboration with industry partners. Technologies developed across a range of disciplines have been commercialised, both domestically and internationally.

Adelaide Enterprise, the University’s commercial development company, also plays an integral role in helping to bring these technologies to market, and making ideas investment-ready.

Whether you’re a multinational, an ambitious small business, a government agency or a not-for-profit with an innovative agenda, a research partnership with the University can have a positive impact on your organisation. The University’s Research and Business Partnerships team will work with you to quantify your needs and put you in direct contact with the most relevant experts.

Our faculty also provides a number of other services for partners, including: expert witness advice; assay services; preclinical testing; epidemiological studies; clinical trials; biostatistical analyses; health technology assessment; and other contract research and consulting services across all health disciplines.

SAHMRI

The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) undertakes research into many serious health problems facing Australians, including cancer, premature birth, infectious disease, heart disease, Aboriginal health disparities, diabetes and dementia. The faculty works very closely with the institute; a significant number of our researchers are based there, with some being SAHMRI theme leaders. Our medical and nursing schools are also located adjacent to SAHMRI in the South Australian Health and Biomedical Precinct.

SA Health

The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences has a strong, long-standing relationship with SA Health. The department is one of the largest employers of our graduates, and many of our titleholders are SA Health staff. Many of our students also undertake clinical placements within SA Health facilities, both in the metropolitan area and beyond.

Basil Hetzel Institute

The Basil Hetzel Institute is the highly productive research arm of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Our faculty researchers work closely with the institute, which provides practical training opportunities for our undergraduate and postgraduate students. Parts of the Adelaide Medical School’s surgery, medicine and psychiatry disciplines are also based at the hospital.

Adelaide UniCare

Adelaide UniCare operates several general practices and provides clinical placements for our medical and nursing students. University staff and students can access general-practice appointments. It also facilitates research into general practice.

Colgate-Palmolive

Our Adelaide Dental School has a long-standing and rich partnership with Colgate-Palmolive. This partnership has enabled us to purchase necessary equipment for use in teaching and the conduct of life-changing research. Colgate-Palmolive supports the work of the Dental Practice Education Research Unit, which is located within the University's Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health (ARCPOH).

SA Dental Service

Our dentistry and oral health students undertake placements at facilities operated by the SA Dental Service, which provides dental services for children and eligible adults throughout the state. The University also has a 30-year partnership contract with SA Health to deliver these services within the new Adelaide Dental Hospital, which is to be housed in the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences building in the South Australian Health and Biomedical Precinct.

International partnerships

The faculty works with strategic international partners to facilitate research collaboration, staff and student exchange, joint PhD programs and articulation pathways. These partnerships help to provide us with a global perspective on all faculty activities.
