Welcome to The South Australian Foundation for Dental Education and Research (SAFDER)The South Australian Foundation for Dental Education and Research (SAFDER) was established in 1990. Following an initial meeting of a Steering Committee in June of that year under the initiative and guidance of the then Dean of the School of Dentistry, Professor John Spencer, it was officially launched in September. Since that time SAFDER has worked in conjunction with the School of Dentistry and The University of Adelaide to support funding initiatives for the benefit of the School. This work is undertaken at the direction of a Board of Management and has as its primary objective the task of establishing a continuing interest in, and financial support for, the School of Dentistry at The University of Adelaide. The University’s Vice-Chancellor and President (or representative), the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Dean of the School of Dentistry sit on its Board of Management. The Foundation has also supported students and staff over the years by way of scholarships and development awards. Since the Foundation’s establishment, in excess of $6.3 million has been promised by practitioners, individuals, the corporate sector, South Australian government and various trusts, together with direct support by way of the provision of equipment and significant discounts in the purchase of major equipment.
