Recent Abstracts 

 A BRIEF HISTORY:

The fore-runner of this journal was the International Journal of Forensic Dentistry which was published between July 1973 and April 1977.  There was a break of six years with no publications in the forensic odontology area.  Then in June 1983 Volume 1 of the new Journal of Forensic Odonto-Stomatology was published in South Africa with Professor H.A. Shapiro as the Editor.  After his death in 1984 the editorial responsibilities were taken over by the local Editorial Board members in Cape Town, South Africa.

At the General Assembly of I.O.F.O.S. held in Vancouver in 1987 the proposal to make this journal the official publication of I.O.F.O.S. was adopted.  The production of the journal was shifted from South Africa to the Forensic Odontology Unit of The University of Adelaide, Australia, and Dr Cyril Thomas was appointed as editor-in-chief.

ADMINISTRATION OF THE JOURNAL IN 2004:

At the end of 2003 Dr Cyril Thomas retired as the editor and was replaced by Dr Helen James.  The journal is now edited and published in Adelaide, Australia.  It is refereed, fully indexed and is found in the large databases, i.e. MEDLINE.  This is a quality international journal which has been published continually, twice each year in June and December, for the last 21 years.  The areas of forensic odontology covered in the journal are Research, Case Reports, Reviews and Techniques.
