Student Experiences and Outcomes
Investigation of the development of patient-centred communication by student oral health practitioners. This research involved evaluating students' perceptions, knowledge and skills related to patient-centred communication, at different stages of the curriculum. A key component of this research involves patient feedback to support development of students' skilss for diverse groups of patients, eg, older age groups. Findings will guide strategci refinement of existing communications curriculum. These projects are in collaboration with Assoc Prof Dieter Schönwetter, Professor Mickey Wener, and Dr Nita Mazurat, Faculty of Dentistry, The Universtity of Manitoba, supported by a grant from the Canadian Institute of Health Research. Related projects include evaluation of students' learning and behaviours in the provision of clinical care related to smoking cessation.
